Tonight: Intentional Sustainable Villages By Liz Harwood.

Humboldt Permaculture Guild

Sorry this is last minute, but it’s a great idea if it could work.  More power to Liz Harwood who is contributing lots of time, energy and possibly more.  Good luck Liz, it’s a great idea.

  1. URI DRISCOLL says:

Liz and I talked about this the other day and I will say at first I was a little skeptical but while there are some details to work out for sure I would love to see the concept explored.
I actually stayed with some folks in Seattle years ago that were working on this same idea.

  2. It is a great idea Uri. I love it b/c it we do need the close-quarter living in the rural areas that it would push. The problem that Liz brings up, which should not surprise a Supervisorial candidate with your background, is land use designations.

I would be in support of limited exceptions allowing for creativity. This would be one of very few. Otherwise I’d be in favor of doing what we can as a governmental institution to protect the natural resources we have.

You know, ideas such as …

“Protect agriculture and timberland over the long-term, using measures such as increased restrictions on resource land subdivisions and patent parcel development.” or

“Protect ecosystem values, especially open space, water resources, water quality, scenic beauty, and salmonid habitat.”

What do you think about those principles. Would you have fought to protect them? Supervisor Lovelace did.
